Zinc removal from Al-melt

InsPyro and Konzept join forces to resolve zinc contamination in the aluminium recycling industry to increase the recycling potential of aluminium metal.

The ZinAl consortium developed two alternative fuming strategies. In non-ferrous industry, zinc removal typically makes use of the volatile nature of metallic zinc. The Zinal project builds further on this concept to apply the technology on contaminated aluminium melts. The process is able to reduce the zinc content in the melt below 0.5% within 30 minutes. The developed process reduces the operational cost and the environmental impact of this particular aluminium recycling challenge.
